Antone Warren, 6’10”, 265, Post, Sophomore

Antone Warren graduated from Fern Creek High School High School in Louisville, Ky.  in 2013 and due to academics he headed off to a national JUCO, Kankakee Community College, Illinois.   He was a two star ranked player with D-1 interest from East Tennessee State  and Northern Arizona .  According to JUCOService.com, after one year at Kankakee, he  transferred to Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee where he did not play basketball but attended classes.

This is the second year that Antone Warren has been with the Antelope Valley Basketball program.  He needed to improve his academics and upgrade his conditioning and things were looking very positive for “Ace”  and AVC till one month before the pre-conference season began last year.

During a a spirited practice, Warren went up for a thunderous dunk and came down with a badly fractured finger.   Surgery followed and he missed the complete season 2015-16 for AVC on a injury red shirt.

The big man is now back to 100% and if there is any silver lining in this injury it is two fold;

  1. He has worked hard on his academics and says his last semester he pulled out a 3.0 GPA.
  2. He has spent time on the track and pounding the weights in weight room along with classes.

Antone continues to improve on the floor and conditioning along with his academics and he is going to be dominant force in the upcoming season for AVC and for a lucky university who needs a dominant big man…and who doesn’t!

wp-1469386541835.jpg6’10, 265, “Ace” Warren exploded into the awareness of the University coaches after his outstanding Las Vegas Elite 80 JUCO shootout last weekend.  He dominated the middle with dunk after dunk and changing shots of the opponents and ripping down rebounds.  Best JUCO post man on the west coast?  Warren was named to the all-star team of the tournament.

A lot of D-1 interest after the tournament but to their disappointment his “clock” has run out and boy are the elite D-2 teams smiling!

I sat at practice the other day and took a good look at AVC’s big man.  Without a doubt, Ace is in the best shape of his basketball career.  This summer Warren turned up his conditioning activity/track/weight room and it turned out to be a “fat to muscle” extravaganza.

This change gives Antone;

  1. Improved ability to run the floor
  2. Increase his jumping ability
  3. Improved quickness defensively
  4. New muscle/decrease fat protects the big man’s joints from injury.

Scary physical improvement.  Add to that an intensity for his academics that was not there before.

Could it be that Ace finally has the belief/confidence that he is at the verge of goals that he has been dreaming of?  His dominance at the Cerritos Fall Shootout and the Las Vegas Invitational may have helped him to this new level.  Add to that a strong buy-in to the AVC system.  Great work coaching staff and “Ace.”
