zz – Ryan Wright, 6’6″, 220, Sophomore

ryan wright skywalkerRyan Wright could be one of the most highly recruited players on the Antelope Valley College team this year.  There is no question that his physical talents, size and shootingRyan Wright dunk ability will make him a star at the next level.  As last year came to an end, Wright fought his way into a starting position and led the team in rebounding and scoring and scored 18 points in his first playoff game against Long Beach City.  He reminds me athletically of Kysean Reed who starred at D-1 Utah State University.   He has an outstanding mid-range shot from 18 feet in and is willing to do the dirty work in pulling down rebounds.

As a high school student, Ryan Wright was one of the most heavily recruited athletes in the Antelope Valley as he averaged 16 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.3 steals, 1.8 assists and 1.6 blocks per game in his senior season. As a junior, he averaged 20 points, 12.4 rebounds, 3.3 blocks and 2.5 steals.

Much to the surprise of a large number of people, Ryan chose D-2 Chico State over D-1 Cal State Northridge and Northern Arizona, among others(Antelope Valley Press.) As a four-year varsity starter at Palmdale High School, Wright earned four straight First Team All-League honors, two team Most Valuable Player awards, and was named the league’s co-MVP following his junior season.  As can occur, Ryan and Chico State did not click together and he spent a red shirt year at Chico State and decided to join the elite JUCO basketball program, Antelope Valley College known for placing players with D-1 scholarships.

The key to Ryan’s success this year will be his ability to continue and build upon his consistency on the floor that he showed during the last half of last season.  Add to that, consistency and intensity in his academic work.  A player to watch!
