What an End to Trip to Minnesota!

Days three and four in my Minnesota trip were very relaxing as I expected.  I got to visit and play cards each day with my 100 year old Dad and with my family…my brothers and sister and their husbands/wife.  All of them are doing well.  It looks like the Minnesota weather is going from dead winter to summer,  skipping spring all together.  Two feet of snow a week ago to 84 by  the end of this week.  Ice covering the lakes is disappearing fast and the prediction is that the farmers will be out in the fields big time next week.  Really a nice time in Minnesota.

The trip home was a completely different story.   All went well on the drive to the Minneapolis/St Paul Airport.  The wait for the plane from  Sun Country Air was quiet and pleasant.  The 1800 mile flight took 3 and 1/2 hours, was on time and was as comfortable as a coach fare will get you.

Then there was the 70 mile ride home.  The gravel-hauling big rig was travelling northbound when it overturned on top of a silver Honda Accord and crashed into the center divider, spilling gravel and concrete onto the southbound lanes of the 405. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the crash sparked a fire that burned both vehicles.  Seven vehicles in all were involved in the accident. The 405 freeway was blocked by a major truck accident and the bus from the airport that takes me the Van Nuys parking structure where my car was parked was blocked and it took 5 1/2 hours to get home.  The bus, sitting on the dead freeway,  was full of tired travelers and their screaming kids.  Brutal!  Nearly half of my travel day of 12 hours was spent on the LA freeways last 70 miles.

Overall, thanks family for your great hospitality and your freeways and transportation system suck Los Angeles!
