Who’s Hot and Who’s Not in SoCal JUCO?

Posted: December 11, 2017 in AVC Men's Basketball

Believe it or not this JUCO basketball season is getting closer to the half way mark.  The last couple of weeks there  has been a load upsets in SoCal JUCO basketball.  Add to that, some red hot teams and some stumbling teams changing their directions.  Here are some thoughts on which SoCal JUCO teams are getting hot and teams that seem to be cooling down.

  1. East Los Angeles whips San Bernardino Valley and then gets thumped by Riverside.  East LA seems to be up and down depending on the game. NEUTRAL
  2. San Bernardino Valley finally lost.  Although they won the AVC Tournament, it was against surprisingly weak competition this year.  It was clear that SBV was not playing their best basketball.  It was just a matter of time till San Bernardino Valley lost and sure enough  it was against ELA.  For you San Bernardino fans, I expect Coach Brewer will get his team to be playing like a team again.  When that happens it will be hard hard to beat San Bernardino.  NEUTRAL
  3. Copper Mountain College has shocked the JUCO world this year by being one of the best teams in SoCal.  Loaded with talent and size.  Copper Mountain has lost its last two games against unranked teams.  There is a rumor that is floating around that Copper Mountain has lost some key players.  Haven’t verified this but something is going on.  COLD
  4. Santiago Canyon has lost two of four in the last four games.  COLD
  5. Saddleback has lost 4 of its last 5 games and is COLD
  6. San Diego City has raced out to 6 straight wins. HOT
  7. Riverside has won 3-5 games including beating East LA. NEUTRAL
  8. Cerritos has won 4 of the last 4 games.  HOT
  9. Citrus has won 7 H in a row HOT
  10. West LA has won 4-0 HOT
  11. Chaffey has won 4-0 HOT
  12. AVC has won 3-4 by playing defense and rebounding  NEUTRAL
