Tough Start for AVC’s in First Seven Games

Posted: November 27, 2017 in AVC Men's Basketball

Most basketball team coaches believe that it is important early in the season to play top opponents.  It teaches the team what to expect in the rest of the season and what they must improve upon.

Antelope Valley College played six ranked teams in their first seven games and has ended up  with a 3-4 record.  In the four losses, only one game was a blowout and even in that game AVC led by five at halftime.  With that said, looking at AVC’s statistics in their first quarter of the season,  is painful.  In fact, it is surprising that AVC has a 3-4 record.

90th in state in assists per game(10.4)

81st in state in rebounding per game(31)

77th in state in 3point shooting %(28.9)

66th in state in scoring per game(72.0)

61st in state in FG shooting %(42.6)

45th in state in giving up points(72.7)

Now that I got the painful stuff out of the way, with AVC’s talent, it is definitely possible for the team to improve their record dramatically by improving pretty much across the board, offensively and defensively.  Its up to the team to step up.
