AVC Drops to 3-4 With Loss to East LA

A month or two ago, I warned the AVC fans that their team’s schedule in pre-season was going to be brutal!   AVC was taking on the best of the best in SoCal and the team members were going to have to learn quickly and play well in all aspects of the games, including rebounding and defense.

AVC has been competitive in all of their games this year especially on the offensive end of the court.  Individuals have stood out, D’Mauria Jones and Osi Nwachukwa, are playing D-1 level basketball in every game.

The key for AVC’s success in the rest of the season is that all team members learn from playing the best teams and become as consistent in their roles every game.  Rebounding and defense must be the first thing the players think about when they wake up and when they fall asleep.  If that occurs, the Marauder’s will start putting more wins on their record.  With the rest of their schedule coming up just as tough as their first 7 games, it is imperative that all team members step up now on both ends of the court.

The key question yet to be answered is, “Can this talented group of players put it all together as a team to win basketball games against top teams?”

The following is a overview of AVC’s loss against #2 East Los Angeles yesterday afternoon;

In the third place game of the tournament, Frank Bertz was a perfect 9 of 9 from the floor including six threes and had 24 points and Roderick Williams added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists as 2nd ranked East Los Angeles (4-1) overcame a five point halftime deficit and crushed 13th ranked Antelope Valley 83-67 to take home third place. D’Mauria Jones had 18 points and Osi Nwachukwu added 16 points and 6 rebounds in the loss for Antelope Valley (3-4).
