Good/Bad/Ugly…AVC’s First Game

Sitting here in the airport, waiting for our flight to Minneapolis, for my Dad’s 100th birthday party.  This is the first time I have had a chance to take a look at AVC’s first game of the year.  The game reminds me a little of the spaghetti western, The Good, Bad, and the Ugly.

Good Bad and Ugly

GOOD

A win(64-63) against Pasadena City College who is going to win a lot games this year.

Free throw shooting percentage…91.3%

AVC’s shut down defense caused 28 turnovers including 9 steals.

D’Mauria Jones, 21 points, 7 rebounds

Osi Nwachukwa, 14 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists

Julian Payton, 5 steals

Jamar Kemp, 6 points, 5 rebounds, 4 Assists

BAD

Over all shooting %, 39.3%

UGLY

Gave up a 15 point lead in the second half


AVC men win first game of season(AV Press)

VENTURA – The Antelope Valley College men’s basketball team won its first game of the season in a 64-63 decision against Pasadena City College on Thursday in the first day of the Ventura College Tournament.

Sophomore D’Mauria Jones led the Marauders with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Osi Nwachukwu had 14 points and eight rebounds. Gregory Floyd Jr., added 12 points and starting point guard Julian Payton had five steals.

Pasadena took the lead with 25 seconds to play in the game, but Jones and Jamar Kemp each made a pair of free throws to regain the advantage. The Marauders got a key defensive stop as time expired.

AVC will play Riverside City College today in the championship semifinal round of the tournament.
