Jamar KempAntelope Valley College has added some experience and size to it 2017-18 basketball team.  Jamar Kemp, 6’8″, 300 PF, C  joined AVC after playing his freshman year at State Fair Community College in Sedilia, Missouri.  According to Jamar, he was injured on and off during his 2016-17 season at State Fair.  His State Fair CC stats show, he played an average of 4.5 minutes per game scoring 3.9 ppg and pulled down 4.1 rpg .

Kemp who grew up in Washington, played basketball at O’Dea High School and prep basketball at Moravian Prep in Hudson, North Carolina, where he averaged 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists per game.

Jamar is said to have a good feel for the game, can play with his back to the basket and has a nice touch on his shot out to about 15 feet.  AVC will look to have Kemp provide an inside presence.  He is also a good passer with the ability to find cutters; Jamar is said to “just knows the game.”

Being that Jamar just arrived at Antelope Valley College, it will take some time for him to integrate into the AVC team and to get into basketball shape.  He will be working in the post with sophomore Jesse Burns, 6’8″, 275 and freshman John Hamilton, 6’6″, 210 and Freshman Simon Hilby 6’5″, 200.

If the name Kemp reminds you of an NBA star of the past, Jamar is the son of Shawn Kemp, a National Basketball Association All-Star who played 14 seasons.
