Late Talent…Athlon Sports Basketball Preview

Posted: September 9, 2017 in AVC Men's Basketball

Unless I am traveling,  I pretty much attend all of the workouts and practices for Antelope Valley College.  You can learn much about the team, its individual players and get a feeling how the team chemistry is percolating.

Thursday, was one of those workouts that was just a joy to watch.  The players were soaking up the AVC basketball nuances and they were having great fun working out.  The sophomores were teaching  the new freshmen on the floor and even the sprints had a fun competitive feeling about it.

As I look back to the July Summer Shootout Out at Cerritos this year, I was surprised that, AVC only had 10 players with the team at that time.  Four returning sophomores, a transfer sophomore and five freshmen.   Since then, AVC added 12 additional players;  two transfer sophomores and 10 freshmen.  Quite a number of the 12  joined the team in the last several weeks.  The late arrivals will put some pressure on the coaching staff to figure out which of these 22 players will fit in this year’s team and in the future.  A great problem for a coaching staff to have;  a plethora of talent.

I haven’t had a chance to introduce all of the players to you yet this year and for reasons that will become clear in the future, several player must  remain anonymous for a few days yet.  They are all in their classes and enjoying their workouts and teammates.  Fun and unusual year so far.  Keep reading this website for more details.

Finally, Athlon Sports have just come out with their College Basketball 2017-18 Preview Magazine.  Lots of interesting stuff including two PAC 12 teams in the top 10 teams in the nation.
