LBSU coach Dan Monson and point guard Justin Bibbins have a conversation during a loss at home to CSUN.

At this point it’s easier to list the players leaving the Long Beach State men’s basketball program than the players returning next season. Sources confirmed Sunday that All-Big West point guard Justin Bibbins became the latest 49er to request a transfer. He’s the fourth player to depart this offseason, and more are expected.

LBSU 10th-year coach Dan Monson said he’ll try to give every player his release to transfer without penalty, and that he’s still trying to look at this systemic shift in personal as a positive.

“We didn’t want him to go and its a huge blow talent wise but like I’ve said before if guys aren’t happy or feeling their role than we’re better off letting them go,” Monson said.

Bibbins was second team All-Big West for the second season after leading the Big West in assists (5.3) and free throw percentage (89%) while scoring 12.6 points per game. He also lead LBSU in steals and was second in 3-point percentage.

“Reportedly, Justin Bibbins is leaving. He’s a senior-to-be, by the way. Hard to spin four transfers since the season ended, but Monson’s attempting to do that.”
