Two More Top Long Beach State Players Transferring…Fans Stunned

Long Beach State men’s basketball players Roschon Prince and Loren Jackson announced they’ll be transferring to other universities next season to continue their athletic and academic careers.

imagePrince, a Gatorade Player of the Year at Long Beach Poly High, transferred from USC to Long Beach State after his freshman year and had a breakout junior season in the paint while averaging 9.6 points. The 6-foot-6 forward was second in the Big West with 9.4 rebounds in conference play. Prince had nine double doubles this season. He has one year of eligibility left.

imageJackson played in 34 games as a freshman and averaged 18.9 minutes, 5.8 points, 1.6 assists and 1.3 turnovers. Monson said the 5-foot-8 guard wants to play closer to his family in Chicago, Illinois.

This is starting to look like a true disaster for the “Beach.”  How will Coach Monson attempt to staunch the flow of talent out of his team?  Will he attempt to bring in players from JUCO”s like most mid-majors do?  That is a possibility but, many of the top JUCO players have already been snapped up by D-1 schools.  Will D-1 transfers or top high schooler’s want to join Long Beach after this outflow of their eligible talent? CS Long Beach University is going to need some instant talent to be competitive in the years to come.
