DAVIS, Calif. – UC Davis showed UC Irvine firsthand in Saturday’s Big West battle for first place why it is the No. 1 defense in the conference by holding the Anteaters, a team that entered the Pavilion averaging 80 points per game in league play, to only 65 points. By forcing UCI to shoot 12 of 37 (.324) throughout the second half and not record a field goal throughout a 4:44 stretch late in the game, the Aggies claimed sole possession of first with their 74-65 victory in front of 3,574 fans.

AVC’s Lawrence White starting and leading the way for Davis, was the recipient of numerous tough fouls, Lawrence White remained unfazed by UCI’s aggressive play and finished with nine points and five rebounds in their upset win against UC Irvine.

Long Beach State University a prohibitive favorite for win the conference this year is showing signs of lift and has moved up to fourth place in the race.
