I have been attending High School basketball games as of late and have been enjoying them, not so much for the quality of the play, but for how hard they play and the stands filled to capacity with raucous fans. 

JUCO basketball fan participation seems to be slowly but surely decreasing. Sad but true.  AVC’s home attendance is by far the best of the teams we play but has decreased some also.  I know winning brings in fans but what else can JUCO’s do to boost fan participation?

NoCal Shocker…Fresno City Goes Down

On Saturday over in the San Joaquin, Merced College downed Fresno City College 105-93. For the Rams, Christian (Golden Valley High) Carroll had an impressive shooting night at 9-13 overall plus 5-8 from long distance and finished with 23 points. He added seven rebounds and seven assists. Teammate Cole (Clovis East High) Morgan tallied 19 as well as six assists.

AVC Women’s Basketball Wins 5th Straight and Leads Conference

GLENDALE – The Antelope Valley College women’s basketball team beat Glendale 71-47 on Saturday on the road.

Deja Smith led the way with 18 points, while Brienna Perkins had 15 points and Katilin Stevenson contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Marauders head coach Barry James said the team did a good job executing its defensive game plan.

"They are a dribble penetration team," James said of Glendale. "We held their better scorers under their averages."

AVC will host Barstow on Feb. 4.
