Wichita State considered a mid-major D-1 team, maybe they should be upgraded. As usual the Wichita team has two JUCO studs.

Wichita, Kan. – Long Beach State battled early with Wichita State to open its nine-game road swing, but poor shooting finally undid the Beach and the Shockers took advantage of the drought, pulling away in the second half in a 92-55 loss Sunday night.

The game was a scrappy defensive battle early, as the score was tied at 6-6 after five minutes, and Long Beach State (1-1) pulled even at 20-20 with 8:18 to play on a three-point play by Loren Jackson.

Wichita State (2-0) did not surrender the lead, converting a pair of free throws on the next trip down and ultimately extending the Shocker lead to 10 points at the half.

Still within striking distance despite going 0-for-7 from three in the first half, Long Beach State opened the second half by scoring the first five points to cut the lead 43-38 on a Javonntie Jackson layup.

The drought from deep would doom the 49ers though, as Long Beach State eventually went 0-for-16 before getting the first three of the night late in the game, well after an 18-0 run from Wichita State had decided the contest.

Gabe Levin led Long Beach State with 13 points, while Evan Payne and Javonntie Jackson shared the rebounding lead with five apiece. Five Shockers finished in double figures, led by Conner Frankamp who had 15 points.

The road trip continues Tuesday as Long Beach State will face No. 6 North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. PT and the game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
