With eight days to go, AVC is heading into their first game with Orange Coast College.  A battler from the Orange Empire Conference with an up tempo style of basketball, looks to have an improved year from last year according to John Bynum.

Orange Coast will return four players from the 2015-2016 season. Leading the list of returnees for Orange Coast is “6-0” sophomore guard Josh Mendoza. Mendoza averaged 12.3 points in his freshman campaign and shot 44% from behind the three point line. “6-4” sophomore Ibrahim Gerlach will provide sophomore experience as he put up 9.2 points and 5.1 rebounds in his freshman season. “6-2” Ryan Fusco will return after averaging 7.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in his first season a year ago. “6-4″” Llyod Wright will also return for the Pirates after averaging 4.0 points and 1.6 rebounds in his freshman season a year ago.

Newcomers:  “6-4″ Tyler Burch (Westminster HS)”6-2” Nate Harding (Newport Harbor HS), “6-0” Sean Comer (Costa Mesa HS), “6-3” Deondre Hawkins (Palm Springs HS), “6-3” Jelani Jackson (Westminster HS), “5-10” Gabriel Lofton (Canyon HS), “6-3” Antonio Nario (Santa Ana HS), are freshman that were listed on the showcase roster. “6-2” Kamar Reese, “6-0” Tim Pena are sophomores listed on the Pirates showcase roster that will provide sophomore experience.

Will the test for AVC be a up tempo man-to-man or a packed in zone defense?  How about non-stop fast breaks or long range bombing from beyond the three point line?
