John Calipari broke his silence on Kentucky Wildcats small forward Derek Willis Thursday morning.

At a press conference, the three-time Naismith College Coach of the Year updated the public for the first time since news broke of Willis’ June arrest for public intoxication.

Calipari told reporters that Willis not miss any playing time for the upcoming season.

The Kentucky coach did admit that “[Willis] knows he’s under a different eye now than he was.”

Calipari refused to develop the portrait of Willis’ punishment any further, saying he “doesn’t throw people under the bus.”

Willis was found on the ground June 11, laying out the driver’s seat door; you can see the original dash-cam video here.

There’s no doubt the 6-foot-9, 250-pound junior is lucky to be in the position he’s in currently given the circumstances of what happened that June night.

Kentucky kicks off its season on Oct. 30 when it takes on the Clarion University Golden Eagles in an exhibition game.
