Shelton Boykin Leaves San Angelo State

Posted: April 4, 2016 in AVC Men's Basketball, AVC Men's BB 2015-16, D-2

We have been told that Shelton Boykin left D-2 San Angelo State University early in the conference season.  San Angelo State, a power house D-2 university was ranked as high as #7 nationally with Shelton leading in scoring and rebounding.

Boykin arrived back at AVC in the 2014-15 after a long hiatus where he attended at least 7 JUCO’s after he left AVC in 2010 after losing his scholarship out of high school to Long Beach State University due to grades.  Depending who you talk to, he attended 3 or 4 high schools.

Although it was a tough decision for the coaching staff at AVC, whether to accept Shelton back on the team, he had a great year academically and on the floor, and he was named to the first team All-State JUCO in 2015.

Due to his outstanding season at AVC, D-2 universities from all over the nation recruited Boykin.  Due to is “clock” Shelton was not eligible to play D-1 basketball.

Why did Shelton leave Angelo State?  I don’t know.  Where will Shelton be next year?  At home, playing at another D-2 university or as a professional basketball player?  Where ever he ends up I wish him the best.  He has give me more to write about on blog and any other player and has been a great young man to deal with.
