New Season Begins/Old Season Ends…It’s a Mix

It’s that strange time of the year for JUCO Basketball.  The old season is coming to end academically and the placing of graduating players at the university level on scholarship.

Old Season(2015-16)

Players spending lots of extra time in the, library on paper and  studying.  As universities express interest on the graduating players, Coach Rios(Academic Advisor) is working with players making sure that they meet all of the requirement of the Universities; GPA and classes.   Busy exciting time!

New Season(2016-17)

Recruiting, workouts and the brain trust has met to determine how they can improve on the 25-6 record from last year.  One game away from the state tournament.  It was pretty clear to me from looking at the easy San Francisco rolled over their opponents, all you need is;

  1. A couple of healthy 6’9” post players with D-1 talent.
  2. Five D-1 level talented players at the other positions with size that shoot the ball.
  3. A great point guard and a solid sized great shooting two guard.
  4. Ten players deep who play every game.
  5. Healthy team.

Balance, size and maturity, health and talent at both ends over come the “three and dunk” and “grinder” teams every time.

Off for us on a short spring trip.  Blizzard country.
