A major shakeup has occurred with the Western Kentucky Basketball program, as Yahoo’s Pat Forde is reporting that three players have been suspended and head coach, Ray Harper, has resigned from his position.

In a statement released by the university, junior Fredrick Edmond, freshman Marlon Hunter and freshman Chris McNeal were revealed to be the three suspended players.  Edmond was the Hilltoppers’ third leading scorer this season. McNeal played in all of Western Kentucky’s 34 games, while Hunter played in 32.

Of course, in incidents like this, the on-court accomplishments of the players and coaches involved is secondary in importance.

Despite the action that was taken, it is unclear what the incident was that got the three athletes into trouble. In their statement, Western Kentucky said that “No information concerning the disciplinary charges or outcome will be released by the University.”

In that same official statement, Director of Athletics Todd Stewart said that “Federal law prevents us from public discussion of any details related to student disciplinary cases.”

Harper became the head coach during the 2011-12 season, taking the Hilltopers to the NCAA Tournament that year and in the following season. In all, he was 90-61 at Western Kentucky and has a 427-123 record.
