Goodbye January! Welcome February!

Its 31 degrees with 40 mph wind gusts in the Antelope Valley this morning as we welcome in February.  The mountains surrounding the valley are covered with heavy snow and we could be getting snow on the valley floor until noon today.  The AVC basketball fans are cheering the entrance of February and happy to see January 2016 go.  Why you say?  Simple.  AVC lost for the year their last two “Bigs” in January and have stumbled out of the month with a 4-4 record dropping AVC to a 18-5 overall record.  Tough month.

The last game of the January was on Saturday on the road against Glendale College.  Here are some key stats from the game;  AVC out rebounded by 13, out shot 44% to 54% and outshot from beyond the arc 31% to 44%.   Looks like a 20+ point loss at least right?  AVC was down as much as 18 points in the second half but with eight minutes left, they exploded and tied Glendale in the last seconds of the game to put it into overtime.  Great eight minutes.  Then AVC lost it 90-87 in overtime.  Here is the Box Score of the game.  Is February the month that we will see the “new team” we saw in the last eight minutes of the Glendale game????  Time will tell.

AVC stays on the road this week against Citrus on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, 5 pm.
