AVC Accomplishes Two of Four Goals and Wins by 19

Posted: January 28, 2016 in AVC Men's Basketball, AVC Men's BB 2015-16, conference

The crowd was smiling as they left the gymnasium last night. AVC had won it’s 18th game by 19 points against College of the Canyons and put on a long range shooting exhibition,  46.2%(12-26).  Add to that, the AV team played shut down defense forcing 27 turnovers  by Canyons giving AVC 19 points from these miscues.  Solid defense by the Marauders.  Two major goals for the team accomplished;  Shut down defense and great shot selection

The AVC fans however are smart.  As they moved out of the doors they were heard talking about two other aspects of the game.  Rebounding and free throwing.  AVC has been consistently out rebounding this year and were again in this game, AVC lost the rebound battle by 12. That led to eight second chance points for COC.   Add to that, an abysmal shooting night from the charity stripe;  55.6%(15-27).  There is no question that to win against the crème ala crème of the JUCO crowd, AVC is going to have to make major improvements in these two areas.  Great win as AVC moves up to within one game of first place in the conference.
