Time to Do the Hard Dirty Work

I agree with Coach Taylor that the AVC basketball team played better last night in their nine point loss to Santa Monica College on the road.  Yes, their two main “Bigs” were not in the line up due to injuries/illness.  One could make an excuse that why AVC was out rebounded by 10 again but its not…this has been a chronic problem all year long.  These 10 rebounds led to 12 put back points in a 9 point loss.

It looks to me that the AVC team currently does not believe that rebounding is their job.  Even with hours upon hours of block out drills and long discussion of team rebounding, the tough, dirty job of rebounding responsibility has not yet set in.  It better soon or the rest of the season is going to be ugly for AVC.

Here is a short article from the AV Press on the loss.

Marauders suffer second straight loss

SANTA MONICA – The Antelope Valley College men’s basketball team was outrebounded 36-26 and lost its second straight game, this time to host Santa Monica College 73-65 on Saturday in a Western State Conference South Division game.

The Marauders (17-4, 3-3) trailed by 19 midway through the second half. They cut the lead to three with minutes left, but could get no further.

J.J. Moore led AVC with 14 points, while Nevell Lenard had 13 points and five rebounds with Corey Dollarhide adding 11 off the bench.

Chris Martin had seven assists.

"We played a lot better than our last game," AVC coach John Taylor said. "We got behind, but it took a lot of energy to come back. … I thought overall we played a little more like we’re capable of. We got to get back to it."

AVC continues its season on Wednesday as it hosts College of the Canyons at 7 p.m.
