Handling the Top Point Guard…Groan…The Flu

2:45 pm. Groan…Just out of bed…Have the flu with fever, aches and pains etc.  Just cancelled the hotel reservations for up north for the basketball tournament.  So is life.

AVC is playing Mendocino College in the first game of the Chabot Tournament.  Teetering on the edge of being ranked in the top 15 in NoCal, AVC will have handle one of the top point guards who is averaging nearly 7 assists per game.

(So) Paul Steliga (Mendocino) “6-0” (6.9 assist per game): The sophomore point guard has had another solid season handling point guard duties at Mendocino. Steliga has had double figures in assist three times this season, and had a season high 15 assist against Modesto on December 18th. Steliga also had 12 assist against Lassen and has had a solid start to the 2015-2016 season. Steliga finds open men and will turn heads will his ability to see men open before they are. Steliga also is averaging 11.8 points per game and 5.4 rebounds and will be playing somewhere at the four year level with his ability to run a team.

With two university level point guards on their squad;  Jalen Etienne and Chris Martin, AVC has run deep in handling opponent guards.  In fact if necessary, AVC could put it’s shut down defender, 6’3”, 185 KJ Moffitt on the point defensively if the need arises.  Might just be a bunch of testosterone floating around at this game.
