Three local high school freshman players who red/grey shirted at Antelope Valley College this year could be key to AVC’s run to the state tournament championship in 2012-13. All three of these players have improved dramatically in their red shirt year and have a chance, if this improvement continues, to play basketball at the next level.
Brandon Ruffin has always been known for his athleticism and his ability to slash into the middle. During his red-shirt year, Brandon has dramatically improved his outside shooting and passing under the tutelage of the AVC coaching staff. Ruffin knows the AVC system and now needs to put the “whole package together” including a defensive stopper this year at AVC. He could be a special player.
The most pure 3-point shooter that AVC has seen in years. “Lucc” is has a basketball mind and has gotten stronger in the weight room and will be a nightmare for AVC’s opponents this year.
Aaron has the size, skills, and athleticism to be a D-1 player. He red-shirted last year as he had a sore knee but currently he is practicing pain free. If Aaron stays healthy and turns up his energy level, and does his academics, many recruiter eyes will be watching Aaron.
They took a year off to heal and to improve their skills and strength. Its up to them now to shine in front of the 100’s of university coaches that will be watching them in the next year. This is their chance.
